More Intense Weather:
Climate change is effecting our world in many ways. The most common way we are seeing this play out in our world today is through more severe and frequent weather disasters. From more intense Hurricanes, drought, wild fires, and flooding, we are seeing disasters with regularity. We are also seeing this play out through more extreme weather patterns. We are regularly reaching record high and low temperatures throughout the year. It is obvious that weather is changing, and we are a direct cause. We need to enhance and grow our usage of renewable energy.
With our President removing us from the Paris Accord, we will push Illinois to not only meet the standards of the Paris Accord, but push to do even better. We propose making Illinois powered by 100% renewable energy sources by 2035. We believe we should give incentives to our citizens to drive clean vehicles, and even use public transportation more often. We can give tax breaks to those citizens improving the efficiency of their home, and lowering their carbon footprint. We need to work together both on the side of the government and the side of the citizen to prevent further damage to our planet.
New Opportunities:
To address the Climate Change Crisis, we will have to change from a predominantly fossil fuel dependent society to renewable energy. This will offer a great deal of opportunity for new high-paying jobs. Revolutionizing and building up the entire renewable industry will create millions of jobs. This can be a great opportunity for us in the Midwest to be a center for this industry. We need to see this new industry as an opportunity to bring work to central Illinois. We will push for Central Illinois to be a hub for the renewable industries. With our geographical location, and an improved infrastructure, we are poised to be a perfect location to build and transport the materials needed to build a new future for our country and the world.
These industries will bring high-paying jobs to the area. We will need to build the infrastructure to house and transport these supplies, which will also create more high-paying jobs. We need to position ourselves for this opportunity now, so when this industry explodes, we are ready!
